Unlike in the Tony Hawk series, movement and tricks are entirely controlled by analog sticks. By completing either way, the player gains access to the Xgames and the mega-ramp, a massive ramp based on a real construction. The Thrasher path is more anti-authority, with downhill races and tampering with security. The Skateboard Mag path follows a more formal career skater format, with progression based on photo moments, demos, contests, and filming parts. There are two paths to take: Skateboard Mag and Trasher to get coverage in various magazines. Completing challenges earns you new equipment, clothing, characters, and new challenges. Spots can be “owned” by performing well, and there are also jam sessions and death races against other skaters. To become a top skater, players must participate in skating challenges marked on the map to gain notoriety, attract sponsors, and have their tricks photographed or filmed.
